ARCHIVER: A new approach to Long Term Digital Preservation of Scientific Datasets

Overview

Description: ARCHIVER is a European Commission supported project that addresses the needs of Long-Term Digital Preservation (LTDP) of scientific research datasets.  The project developed novel service offerings which are targeted at the estimated 1.7 million European researchers and 70 million professionals in science and technology, public and private sectors combined, that are expected to make use of the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC).

ARCHIVER ran a competitive process, executed in three phases, for Suppliers to design, prototype and pilot new and innovative LTDP services.  These services needed to demonstrably meet the archiving and preservation needs of organisations including CERN, EMBL-EBI, PIC and DESY.  Arkivum was one of only two organisations that successfully completed all three phases of the process.

This webinar will explore Arkivum’s experience of being part of ARCHIVER and the journey it has taken them on.  We’ll be covering the objectives of ARCHIVER, the way that the project operated, the results that the project produced, what this has meant for Arkivum, the challenges and successes, the highs and the lows, what’s happened since the end of the project, what’s happening next and more.
