Standards

The Planets Software Suite implements or is compatible with key standards:

• Enables you to implement the preservation components of the OAIS Standard.
• Provides documented web service interfaces for all components.
• Provides pluggable interfaces for custom or new components.
• Provides PREMIS and Dublin Core metadata.
• Uses cross-platform interoperable web-services standards (WSIT and JAX-WS).

Technology

The Planets Software Suite uses well established J5EE-compatible components:

• JBoss 4.2 application server
• JBossWS Metro Web Service stack 3.1 including JAX-WS, and JAXB
• JSF, Facelets, RichFaces for web interfaces
• JPA for persistence and database access
• Apache Jackrabbit and Derby
• Wrapper technology allows any command-line tool to be deployed as a preservation service
• Proven integration with .Net preservation services
• Integrates widely used JHOVE and DROID systems

The entire suite is provided as a single package with wizard-driven installation.
