Ross received his Ph.D. in physics from Stanford University. After moving to Vienna in 1995, he migrated to the IT sector, and joined the Austrian Institute of Technology in 2002 to help found the Digital Memory Engineering group, which he presently leads. His research interests are primarily concerned with digital preservation and semantic multimedia information management. He has been active in a number of European projects, including TELplus, Planets, and EuropeanaConnect. He is also the coordinator of the upcoming FP7 Integrated Project “SCAPE” (SCAlable Preservation Environments).
